An actor properly prepared is exposed and vulnerable working moment to moment and depending on the director to monitor performance. Both actor and director need a language and a structure to safely explore the emotional life of a scene that ends with the actor knowing what she wants and the director with tools and insight to dial her in.
Did you know a fight is an escalation of the dramatic action from the preceding scene and has a story all it's own? Before jumping into choreography you have a few questions to ask yourself. - Why a fight at this point in your story? How can this fight serve the story and the character interpretations? How accomplished are the character combatants? How are they matched? What does the “dialogue of the combat” say that words can not?
In this workshop you’ll learn to communicate your vision using “industry standard” script break down practices, camera blocking fundamentals and staging templates. You’ll also learn how to turbo charge your shooting day to get the most scene coverage in a very limited time.
We’ll cover lighting instruments and how lenses, diffusion panels, flags and other tools control and effect the light quality. You’ll learn the qualities of soft and hard light, color temperature, techniques for tricking a white balance, what lighting instruments are needed to create high-end techniques, how to evaluate the needs of a location.
This is a great opportunity for everyone to experience the production cycle in just one super fast day. Participants will experience pitching, casting, shooting and editing a short film from scratch. Working this fast will force all of us to learn and rely on proven production tools and an exciting group energy. The night will end late with a cookout and outdoor screening of our movie!
This six week workshop is for anyone who wants to jump in the trenches and learn how to get work as a paid grip and or electrician on indie film, corporate video, TV commercials and feature films.

What skills will you need?
This one day workshop is designed for those filmmakers who want to move from “pizza & beer” filmmaking to working to departmentalized filmmaking with a team of skilled craftsmen. We’ll also show you how to attract these people.
